Free University HTA course

HEDS are running its successful massive open online course (MOOC) on HTA again; 600 people gained a Certification of Complention when it was run previously in 2013.  Open to all, the MOOC is take place from the 30th June until the 3rd August.  It is based on content adapted from our Masters in International Health Technolgy Assessment, Pricing and Reimbursement, and as such is built using the experience of dozens of academic researchers.

The MOOC introduces you to HTA as a concept (what it is, what it involves) and then takes you through the key stages in the HTA and decision-making process:
  • Identifying technologies for development;
  • Evaluating these technologies in trials and measuring key outcomes, such as Quality of Life (health economics)
  • Appraising and pooling the evidence from these trials to determine the effect of a technology (clinical effectiveness review)
  • Assessing the cost-effectiveness of those technologies (decision-analytic modelling)
  • Considering how the results from this HTA process are used to inform reimbursement and pricing decisions in different countries
