The end of the of strontium ranelate NICE TA saga

Final guidance for both primary and secondary prevention of osteoporotic fractures has been published following a series of ACDs, DSU reports, FADs, appeals, further ACDs and FADs.  This appraisal is based around work undertaken by ScHARR-TAG within HEDS and which forms part of a much larger research programme within HEDS looking at osteoporosis.

The final guidance has been published following a Court ruling that required NICE to give further explanation of its decision relating to strontium ranelate (Protelos).  The final recommendations relating to strontium ranelate remain unchanged from the previous guidance issued in January 2010.
