We are seeking a truly outstanding young individual, who has completed a doctorate in the past five years and is under the age of 40. The potential postdoctoral fellow will conduct cutting-edge research in health economics and will be based at the SAMRC Centre for Health Economics and Decision Science- PRICELESS SA for between 1 and 3 years. 
PRICELESS SA is a research to policy unit that provides evidence to improve resource allocation and aid healthcare priority setting to maximise universal health coverage. 

Roles and responsibilities 
The post-doctoral fellow will be responsible for leading an economic evaluation of the maternal and early child support grant (MSG) in South Africa. As such, only candidates with a strong background in health economics and decision-analyticalmodellingwill be considered for the position. The fellow will be involved in the conceptualisation and development of a decision-analytic model to assess the health benefits and costs associated with the MSG. This fellow will convene and support a steering committee of key stakeholders. 

Other responsibilities of the post-doctoral fellow will include: 
 Supervision of junior researchers 
 Participation in grant writing
 Contribute to teaching on the Masters in Public Health programme at the Wits School of Public Health 
 Contribute to other related research and capacity-building projects at PRICELESS SA 

A research assistant will work alongside the post-doctoral fellow and the research will be overseen by Professor Hofman, Director at PRICELESS-SA, and Dr Edoka, Research Director at PRICELESS-SA. 

Skills and Requirements 
 PhD in Health Economics obtained within the past 5 years 
 Demonstrable experience in decision analytical modelling 
 Demonstrable experience publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals 
 Good writing and presentation skills 
 Good conceptualisation skills 
 Experience in teaching and student supervision will be an advantage 

Expected output
Specific outputs include publication of at least two articles in reputable health policy and health economics journals. The fellow is also required to acknowledge the Trust in all their publications and to report annually on progress to the Trustees 

The final appointments are to be approved by the Hillel Friedland Trust. It is hoped that the Fellow will remain in South Africa after completion of the Fellowship for at least one year.

MRC Skills Development Fellowship at ScHARR

The MRC-funded University of Sheffield Skills Development Fellowship Programme in Population Health Systems Science and Decision Modelling is a collaboration between ScHARR, partners from across the university and the Bradford Institute for Health Research.

We appointed two excellent fellows in our first round, and applications are now open for 2019. 

The fellowship is a three-year personal award, at grade 7, and includes training and research support costs. 

We are particularly looking for rising star early career researchers with a quantitative background (maths, stats, computation, economics) who have not worked in health research, or early career researchers from a health background who have very strong quantitative skills and ability.
