….they are happening, even for NICE appraisals!
The Tufts Open-Source Model Clearing house has been known to us for a while, however, only 13 models were available on it last time we looked. So maybe the way ahead is for individual researchers, then institutions to start doing it?
One example of this is the CMOST model of colorectal cancer screening which is available via gitlab. But perhaps more influential is Tristan Snowsill’s decision to put his models on the University of Exeter’s repository for research outputs. Why? Because it includes his model for NICE relating to immunosuppressive therapies for kidney transplantation in adults (here). He has also made his our lung cancer screening model for the UK National Screening Committee available here.
What next? Manufacturers making their models open source? What have they got to hide?
