Dr Lesley Uttley was recently invited as visiting scientist to the World Health Organisation (WHO), International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in Lyon 3-6 July 2018, to attend and observe the editorial board meetings for the WHO Classification of Tumours of Digestive System and Breast.

Lesley had been invited by Professor Ian Cree, the Head of the WHO Classification of Tumours Group, to act as a Visiting Fellow and provide expertise in systematic review methods which will update the WHO Blue Books using an evidence-informed approach.

The WHO books are used globally by pathologists to classify tumours using the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICD-0) and set the international standard for diagnosing cancers. The aim of the visiting role will be to work alongside WHO IARC staff to develop an approach which synthesises expert opinion and consensus with systematic evidence assessment.
