Sheffield Confucius Institute wins global award

Our Confucius Institute for the promotion of Chinese language and learning has been named global Confucius Institute of the Year.  The Institute, which offers a programme of activities and classes designed to give staff, students and the local community a fascinating insight into Chinese language and culture, was awarded the accolade by the Vice Premier of China, Liu Yandong, at a ceremony in Shanghai.

Vice-Chancellor Sir Keith Burnett and Dr Lucy Zhao, Director of Sheffield Confucius Institute

There are now approximately 500 Confucius Institutes in the world, mainly centred in universities, on six continents.

We were one of the first universities in the UK to host a Confucius Institute, and this is the second time we have been chosen as Confucius Institute of the Year since 2010.  More info here.
