New device project

Jon Minton, economic modeller at HEDS, is collaborating with researchers at Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, who are developing a hand-held, non-contact device for the measurement of respiratory rate.

Dr Heather Elphick at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, was successful in winning funding to develop the device from the National Institute for Health Research’s i4i programme in late 2012. The funding from i4i will support prototyping and early clinical testing of the device, which it is expected will provide an early warning sign to healthcare professionals when a child may need additional support.
