HEDS wins NICE Scientific Advice Programme, again

HEDS have recently won a contract to support NICE in identifying and recruiting experts to assist them in their Scientific Advice Programme (SAP).  The programme provides advice to companies with products early in the development process which are likely to be submitted to NICE for technology appraisal.  Advice is typically provided on trial design, treatment position in clinical pathway, comparator, trial duration and outcome measurements etc.  The objective is to assist companies to ensure their product has the most appropriate evidence to support eventual submission to NICE.

Previous projects have covered conditions such as Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular conditions, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,  gout, multiple sclerosis, oncology, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus.  Experts come from a wide range of  backgrounds including: leading clinicians, working knowledge of NICE and the HTA process, clinical trial design, evidence synthesis, health related quality of life and health economic modelling.

The Programme reinforces HEDS position as a leading reimbursement research unit with involvement not only in SAP, but in the development of technology appraisals, submissions and research methods.
