Measuring national well-being

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is developing new measures of national well-being. The aim is that these new measures will cover all aspects of the quality of life of people in the UK, and as such, go far beyond the health state utilities typically used by health economists. From April 2011, the ONS will be including four subjective well-being questions in selected surveys.

The Centre for Health and Well-being in Public Policy (CWiPP) at the University of Sheffield is hosting an Office of National Statistics (ONS) event on measuring national well-being on 18th March 2011 from 12 to 4pm in the ICOSS Conference Room. The event consists of 4 short presentations from:

Professor Geoff Green (Sheffield Hallam University), Stephen Hicks (Office for National Statistics), Dr Tessa Peasgood (HEDS) and (Chris Shaw, Sheffield City Council).  Further information related to this message is available at http://www.shef.ac.uk/cwipp/wb-environment/ons-wellbeing.html.
