Communicating your research has never been more important in this ever changing digital world. This two half day course (with optional third half day) will guide you through the practical ways in which you can effectively disseminate your research outputs to wider audiences.

• Maximising Twitter’s potential as a research communication platform 

Session 2:  9:30am - 12:30pm

• Creating research communication podcasts
• Creating infographics and eye-catching posters
• Getting visual - tools to help you turn a piece of research into a video presentation, screencast or animation.

Session 3: 1:30pm - 4:30pm (Optional extra)

• Research blogging and working with the media - how to turn a piece of research into a blog/media article
• Altmetrics and alternative indicators of scholarly interest
• Creating a campaign and putting it together
• 1% increments to enhance your research communications

The Centre for Wellbeing in Public Policy welcomed Professor Daniel Hausman to Sheffield to deliver a keynote lecture on “Health, Well-being and Preferences”. The lecture was recorded and can be viewed below.





The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) uses a methodology that relies on representing the benefits of health care technologies in terms of numbers, by relying on public preferences over different health states. Dan Hausman presents his critique of this approach by addressing “a different and potentially powerful argument in defence of assigning values by eliciting preferences.”

Recording of Professor Eva Kaltenthaler Inaugural Lecture - Assessing the evidence: a NICE journey

HEDS professor Eva Kaltenthaler was our latest esteemed colleague to deliver a ScHARR Inaugural Lecture where she described her work as a systematic reviewer undertaking technology appraisals for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Professor Kaltenthaler discussed the process used to assess new treatments for use in the NHS and changes to research methods in systematic reviewing as well as changes to the NICE technology appraisal process over the past 15 years. She outlined her involvement in a range of research projects exploring the methods used in technology appraisal. Professor Kaltenthaler also briefly outlined her earlier work using mixed methods research to study hygiene behaviour.
