Mónica Hernández Alava has won the 2019 ISPOR Value in Health paper of the year award. This is for the paper, “EQ-5D-5L versus EQ-5D-3L: The Impact on Cost Effectiveness in the United Kingdom,” Value in Health 2018;21(1):49-56.
This paper includes Dr Hernández is the lead author alongside Professor Steve Pudney and Professor Allan Wailoo from ScHARR plus collaborators from several other universities. It is the result of work Monica led as part of an MRC Methodology grant on mapping, and the NICE Decision Support Unit.
The paper is a great example of collaborative work building on her recent research in the area of modelling health state utility data. The paper combines cutting edge methods developed for mapping health utility data, demonstration of the impact in real-life cost-effectiveness studies, and addresses a critical policy question for decision makers like the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE), who part-funded the work through their Decision Support Unit where Monica is a member.
